I've heard some people talking about the MCM sale and I have some questions about it.
1)What does MCM stand for?
2)Where does it take place?
3)How often does it take place?
4)Could I get a Lindsey doll there?
5)I've heard that the AG doll hospital doesn't take dolls from the MCM sale, is that true?

Thanks for answering all my questions, sorry there where so many.

Here's the answer from Ann's FAQ's (from the top of the main page of this message board):

What is the MCM sale people keep talking about?
This stands for the Madison Children's Museum sale. Every year in the summer, American Girl has a sale of seconds, returned items, repaired items, and partial sets of items in Madison, Wisconsin. The sale of these items benefits the Madison Children's Museum. To get into the sale, you must buy tickets for certain days and times of day. You can go in at your time and shop as long as you wish, but you cannot go back in once you check out. The items are discounted from regular prices, but the items that are available are unpredictable. Usually there are items from all of American Girl's product lines, as well as some retired items, but you cannot count on anything being available during your (or any) time slot.

You probably won't be able to find a Lindsey there next summer, but I suppose a bit of hope always does spring eternal (btw, I found my Lindsey at a garage sale... one never knows!)

AG Doll Hospital will take dolls from the Sale as long as you don't want them to pay for it as a 'damaged doll'. They don't want people to try and trick them into taking care of damages, but if you want something fixed and will pay for it, they'll take them.

Good luck!

If you google Madison Children's Museum you will find their website, and there is already information up re: the 2006 benefit sale. You can send them a long self addressed stamped envelope and they will send you a flyer about the sale next May- telling you when to buy tickets, etc. Whenever tickets go on sale, you MUST order them immediately if you want a good time slot. I was on line at exactly the moment they went on sale this year, and tried as hard as I could and got 9:15 tickets (the web site was too overloaded to process all the requests at once). (The tickets start at 7:00). I think your only chance (and even it is a slim one) of getting Lindsey at the MCM sale next year is to have a 7:00 ticket, and camp out early to be sure you're one of the first few people let in at 7:00. Good luck! Oh, you do not need a ticket to go the second day of the sale- it is obviously pretty picked over then, but they still usually have some dolls left. This year the AGOT were $35 or $40 on Sunday.

The sale is fabulous! I got some great deals on furniture for my daughters and a Kirsten for my mother in law for $50.

The hype will start up here again around June for the big sale next year!

Googling for information on the MCM sale was how I found this place.

edited to directly answer your questions: The sale takes place once a year (3rd weekend in July) and it is in Madison, Wisconsin.

This year someone planned a vacation from Seattle to co-ordinate with the sale. I know people came from NY as well. I guess anything is possible!

I went to the sale for the first time this year and came all the way from the Seattle area. I can tell you that I sure spent a lot for transportation/lodging/and mailing items back home. I certainly could have spent that money just ordering from AG. However, the experience was amazing. I'm sure it also didn't hurt that I had never seen so many AG items in real life before as I had never vistited an American Girl Place. It really was fun and I did spend way too much money but it was worth it. I'm already trying to figure out how I can go again next year! - Meg B.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Madison is in the southern 1/4 of Wisconsin, towards the center of the state. I bet you'd only be about 400 miles or so away. That is definitely do-able!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I'm in Port Huron, which is 488 miles from Madison, according to yahoo. So, it's easily doable in a day.

I would like to go to the sale, but right now, it is looking like it will overlap with our Scotland vacation. If it doesn't, perhaps we can plan a carpool or carvan. My husband has access to an F250 pick up, extra cab and 16' cargo trailer. I bet he'd drive us, plus he's big and huge and always willing carry stuff!!

Shortie, momto2agfans... any other Michiganders in if we can swing it?

I'd love to go but I don't have money for the trip/sale or the time. But I did plug the distance into mapquest to see if it is feasible.

It could easily be a one day trip.
Dayton to Madison is 444 miles.

I noticed the path through IL and wanted to see if a trip to AGP would be on the way. Oddly enough
Dayton to Chicago 149 miles
Chicago to Madison 293 miles.
That's 2 less total miles. If I went, I'd have to stop at AGP
